Last spring, Banner Art Studio created a suspended fabric display of butterflies, dragonflies and leaves for Sutter Medical Plaza in Sacramento, California. The hanging mobile art is installed in an outpatient children’s center that houses pediatric specialists – such as child neurologists, gastroenterologists, and pediatric clinics. It is a few blocks away from Sutter Memorial’s main hospital campus. This type of outpatient setting puts children first in two ways. It means patients and their families aren’t in the hustle and bustle of a traditional hospital setting, yet keeps them close enough to the hospital so that specialists have quick and easy access. A win-win!
Banner Art created colorful custom butterflies, dragonflies and leaves that are light translucent and dust and dirt resistant for the entryway of the outpatient children’s center. The display is visible to all who enter the center, bringing an inspirational message of hope and renewal to children, staff and families alike. The colors coordinate with the existing art and decor in the center, and help further its healing work. Each piece is designed to catch air currents and the light that floods the entryway. The gentle motion of the pieces is soothing, meditative and therapeutic, and offers a unique perspective each time the pieces are viewed. The butterfly art has been hanging in Sutter Medical Plaza for about a year, and we were excited to see our art featured in a recent issue of the Sacramento Bee.
Big news these days at Sutter Memorial is the new Anderson Lucchetti Women’s and Children’s center, the tallest structure in Midtown Sacramento which is still under construction. At a celebration ceremony for the topping out of the new medical center building, CEO Tom Gagen said “Sutter Medical Center Sacramento has a solid national reputation for its comprehensive Women’s and Children’s services … this new Women’s and Children’s Center will continue Sutter Memorial’s reputation as the region’s baby hospital.”
The new building is “a source of joy and pride for every single one of the over 10,000 employees of the Greater Sacramento Region of Sutter Health,” says Sarah Krevans, Regional President, Sutter Health Sacramento Sierra Region. Sutter has a long history of caring for the region, with nearly 90 years of service.
